What is the Adult Recess Festival?
The Adult Recess Festival is the largest adult recess experience in the country and the only adult wellness festival rooted entirely in play, movement, joy, and meaningful human connection.
Each spring, thousands of adults from across the country gather in Raleigh to step away from the demands of daily life and into a space intentionally designed for restoration and presence, not productivity. Here, stress softens, expectations loosen, and adults are invited into a true mental and emotional reset, where joy is honored as an essential part of well-being, not a luxury.
This four-day wellness experience is thoughtfully curated to support presence, connection, and wholeness. Through play, creativity, and community, we reconnect with ourselves and one another, rested, grounded, and reminded that joy is vital to our health.
A Celebration of Community (Ubuntu)
What began as a small meetup has grown into the nation’s largest adult recess experience, a three-day, high-energy celebration that brings together thousands from across the U.S. and the Caribbean.
It awakens the inner kid we’ve sacrificed to responsibility and transforms Raleigh into a vibrant wellness leader rooted in community, joy, play, and connection.

Guests are invited to create a personalized picnic setup using blankets, low tables, pillows, baskets, LED candles, and other thoughtful details that reflect their individual style. Whether your space is minimal, bold, romantic, expressive, playful, or refined, The Chill Estate offers room to design a retreat that feels authentically you.
Your setup becomes a conversation in itself, a visual expression that invites curiosity, sparks connection, and creates opportunities for shared interests and easy dialogue. In The Chill Estate, creativity becomes a bridge, and connection unfolds naturally.
With food trucks nearby, attendees can curate a self-paced tasting experience and return to their picnic setup throughout the festival to recharge and reconnect.
As people move through The Chill Estate, the space becomes a relaxed social environment — encouraging conversation, shared moments, and a slower rhythm within the festival experience.
